The last couple of days rumors have surrounded the return of Cuauhtémoc Blanco to the Chicago Fire, where he has been missed by the fans, and where he would be a welcome addition to Coach Carlos de los Cobos' squad, who has been sorely lacking a creative presence in the middle and up front.

Blanco's representative, Jose Manuel Sanz, has declared in the past that Blanco would be open to returning to Major League Soccer following the 2010 World Cup, and that his experience at Major League Soccer was exceptional, and sources say that Chicago made him an offer.

Blanco scored a penalty kick in Mexico's 2-1 win over France in the group stage in South Africa, and at 37 years, 145 days (on June 11) was the second oldest player to take the field (second only to English goalkeeper David "Calamity" James).

The Chicago Fire, under a veil of secrecy, declared that they will name a Designated Player (Blanco's former label with the team from 2006 until 2009) after their SuperLiga encounter with the New England Revolution on Saturday, July 17, and all signs point to Blanco.

In Mexico, other rumor mills say that he will stay with Veracruz, and also speak of a transfer to Irapuato, the latter denied by the player himself.

There a no certainties, but it is more than likely that the fans in Bridgeview, Illinois will have a chance to cheer on the Mexican idol much sooner than expected.
